NEW YORK, NY — Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon won the endorsement of the Syracuse chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. Syracuse DSA is a local chapter of Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the United States. Cynthia has additionally received the endorsements of the New York City DSA and Buffalo DSA.

“Syracuse DSA understands that when we organize, we can defeat the monied interests that control our elected officials,” said Cynthia Nixon. “I’m happy to have the endorsement of Syracuse DSA as we join forces to fight for health care and housing for all New Yorkers and against the corporate interests trying to keep the status quo.”

“Syracuse Democratic Socialists of America is proud to endorse Cynthia Nixon. Cynthia’s platform includes bold policies that are on the scale Central New York needs to address the rampant poverty and desperation in our community,” said Brian Escobar, DSA Syracuse member. “Syracuse City School District and many rural school districts need to be adequately funded, which Cynthia’s #SchoolsNotJails plan will do. Many of our members and neighbors have faced nightmares dealing with the health insurance system and trying to pay for basic medical care, dental care, and prescription drugs we need and the New York Health Act, which we believe Cynthia will fight for, will liberate us and our neighbors from exploitation by for-profit insurance middlemen. On top of that the New York Health Act will increase the cash-strapped budgets of municipalities in the region. We are also appreciate Cynthia’s support for Green Light NY, which is the number one policy that local immigrants around CNY feel will make them safer.”
