If Cuomo is Proud of His F Rating from NRA, Why Did He Pick a Running Mate with An “A?”

NEW YORK, NY – While Governor Cuomo has largely dodged New York local or legislative reporters since his Trumpian explosion at NY1’s Zack Fink, he has appeared on several national cable TV shows this week to tout his “tough record” on the NRA. However, in reality, the Governor’s record is far more politically flexible. Cuomo’s handpicked running mate, Kathy Hochul, was endorsed by the NRA in her last race for Congress in 2012, and her congressional record received an A rating from the NRA.

Cynthia Nixon spokeswoman Lauren Hitt released the following statement on the Governor’s hypocrisy.

“The Governor likes to paint himself as the enemy of the NRA now – but just four years ago, he was only too happy to embrace Kathy Hochul and her A rating from the NRA – and he’s still standing with her today. The Governor’s hypocrisy on this issue is astounding.”

In 2012, less than two years before Cuomo selected her as his running mate, Hochul touted her endorsement from the NRA, saying that “during her time as Erie county clerk, she streamlined the government’s permit application process and provided gun shows with the staff and technology needed to ensure that sales went through quickly.” Hochul’s congressional campaign also noted that she “fought to strengthen the rights of gun owners traveling from state to state.”
