Indivisible Brooklyn Endorses Cynthia Nixon for Governor

NEW YORK, NY — Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon was endorsed today by Indivisible Brooklyn. The group, with almost 100 engaged members in the borough, cited Governor Cuomo’s unwillingness to pursue progressive policies in New York State and Cynthia’s bold platform.

“After the election of Donald Trump, citizens from across the United States banded together to fight his backwards, xenophobic policies, and Indivisible Brooklyn is a shining example of what ordinary New Yorkers and Americans can achieve in the face of such dysfunction from the executive branch,” said Cynthia Nixon. “I am proud to receive their endorsement and look forward to working with them when I’m governor to make New York the blue state it should be.”

Indivisible Brooklyn is part of the nationwide Indivisible grassroots movement and is open to all people dedicated to inclusion, tolerance and fairness. The organization aims to take political action in three areas: federal, state, and city governments, and promotes progressive policy through civic engagement, building strength in our communities, and blocking the regressive policies of the Trump administration.

“Many of us woke up after the 2016 election to the realization that so-called ‘blue’ New York was not up to code to protect us, on many fronts,” said Emma Balter of Indivisible Brooklyn. “Albany has failed us. We need real progressive leaders, like Cynthia Nixon, to ensure the welfare of all New Yorkers.”

Earlier this month, in an attempt to show progressive support in Brooklyn, the Governor’s campaign inaccurately stated that Indivisible Brooklyn had endorsed him.

The Indivisible Brooklyn endorsement adds to a long list of progressive organizations that have backed Cynthia’s bid for governor, including Our Revolution, Justice Democrats, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Make the Road Action, New York Communities for Change, Citizen Action, the New York Progressive Action Network, and 350 Action. A group of progressive candidates vying to unseat centrist, establishment Democrats in New York has also backed Cynthia including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jessica Ramos, New York State Senate candidate in the 18th district Julia Salazar, and New York State Senate candidate in the 31st district, Robert Jackson.
