INDIVISIBLE GOES WITH CYNTHIA

Largest Anti-Trump Group in the Country Ready to Take on Cuomo

With 400 NY chapters, Indivisible was a group Cuomo badly wanted, but he lost to Cynthia

NEW YORK, NY – Indivisible, the largest anti-Trump group in the country, has thrown their substantial grassroots army behind Cynthia Nixon’s insurgent campaign for Governor. With 400 local chapters of progressives around the state, Indivisible simply could not back a governor who has empowered the IDC and therefore given control of the State Senate to the party of Donald Trump.

Indivisible wanted a real progressive Democrat leading the resistance from New York and so they chose Cynthia Nixon.

“This September, voters in New York will have a choice: to support the status quo that has failed to deliver on progressive promises for years, or to choose bold new leadership.” said Leah Greenberg, founder and co-executive director of the national Indivisible group. “We’re thrilled to be a part of that fight, and to endorse Cynthia Nixon for governor.”

Last Sunday, Governor Cuomo sat with members of Indivisible for three hours in an attempt to court their endorsement, but this morning, after that and other attempts by the Governor to “personally woo” the group, Indivisible announced their support for Cynthia Nixon.

The Governor presumably courted Indivisible’s endorsement because he has largely styled himself as New York’s best answer to Trump, and Indivisible is the largest anti-Trump civic organization in the country. In a blow to the Governor — who continues to refuse to return Trump’s donations to his campaign — Indivisible explained their endorsement of Cynthia by citing three issues on which the Governor has tried to position himself as a leader, immigration, health care and women’s rights.

“In New York, so many Indivisible members have been resisting the two biggest Republican enablers in our state: Andrew Cuomo and the IDC, the rogue Democrats who caucus with Republicans in our State Senate,” said Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon. “I am thrilled to receive the endorsement of Indivisible and work together to transform the Democratic Party into one that fights for progressive values and not just big corporate donors.”

Indivisible has 400 chapters around the state. Their work in Virginia and Alabamawas critical to Democratic victories there, and they were also critical in the effort to thwart the Republican effort to repeal the ACA.

This adds to a long list of organizations that have backed Cynthia’s bid for governor, including the NYC Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA),  Brooklyn Young Democrats, Muslim Democratic Club of New York (MDCNY), Indivisible Brooklyn, the Jewish Vote, Our Revolution, Justice Democrats, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Make the Road Action, New York Communities for Change, Citizen Action, the New York Progressive Action Network, and 350 Action. A group of progressive candidates vying to unseat centrist, establishment Democrats in New York have also backed Cynthia including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jessica Ramos, New York State Senate candidate in the 18th district Julia Salazar, and New York State Senate candidate in the 31st district, Robert Jackson.
