Brooklyn Young Democrats Endorse Cynthia Nixon for Governor

Momentum continues to build for Cynthia across the state

NEW YORK, NY — Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon won the endorsement of the Brooklyn Young Democrats (BYD) this week. BYD is the youth arm of the Kings County Democratic Party, whose support Cynthia won in May. Cynthia has won sweeping support from progressive Democratic clubs and organizations across all five boroughs in a sign of growing momentum and support for new, progressive leadership in Albany.

“Cynthia Nixon inspires us to expect more out of our leaders. New York deserves a Governor who is committed to progressive reform,” said BYD President John Wasserman. “The most important qualities in a leader are a sense of responsibility and a plan to move us forward.”

BYD represents young Democrats ages 16 to 35 living in all of Kings County. The group works to engage, educate, and empower young people so they can actively represent their communities. Since 2012, BYD has organized to elect District Leaders, City Councilmembers, State Assemblymembers, State Senators, U.S. House Representatives, U.S. Senators, and Presidents by knocking on doors, making calls, and texting voters on behalf of their endorsed candidates.

“I am inspired every day by the work of young progressives across this state who are demanding accountability from our elected officials and fighting for real change,” said Cynthia. “The future of our state, party and country is in good hands with leaders like the Brooklyn Young Democrats at the wheel. I’m honored to receive their endorsement and look forward to working by their side to usher in a new era of progressive government in New York.”

Earlier this week, Cynthia won the endorsement of the Muslim Democratic Club of New York. Since the start of her campaign, Cynthia has racked up nearly over 50 endorsements from Democratic clubs, progressive and grassroots organizations, elected officials spanning county legislators up to state reps, environmental, housing, reproductive rights experts, and other candidates running to unseat centrist incumbents.

“Cynthia Nixon is running for Governor because she has a vision of governance for all New Yorkers, including fixing our broken MTA. She won’t shift blame onto others just because that’s the easy thing to do,” said BYD Executive Vice President Christina Das.”

This adds to a long list of organizations that have backed Cynthia’s bid for governor, including the Muslim Democratic Club of New York (MDCNY), Indivisible Brooklyn, the Jewish Vote, Our Revolution, Justice Democrats, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Make the Road Action, New York Communities for Change, Citizen Action, the New York Progressive Action Network, and 350 Action. A group of progressive candidates vying to unseat centrist, establishment Democrats in New York have also backed Cynthia including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jessica Ramos, New York State Senate candidate in the 18th district Julia Salazar, and New York State Senate candidate in the 31st district, Robert Jackson.
