91 Days Later, Gov. Cuomo Still Refuses to Debate Cynthia

NEW YORK, NY – This morning, NY1 announced their plan to hold a one-on-one prime time debate at Queens College on Wednesday, August 22. Exactly 91 days have passed since Cynthia first challenged the Governor to a debate and he has yet to accept.

Cynthia Nixon released the following statement on the debate.

“Ninety-one days ago I challenged Andrew Cuomo to a one-on-one prime time debate to discuss the important issues facing New Yorkers. For 91 days, his campaign has failed to lock in a date, time or location. I want as many New Yorkers as possible to be part of this election, and I want to have an honest debate about the issues. I want to discuss my plans to tax the wealthy, to fix our broken subway, to fully fund our public schools, and to pass single payer health care. The fact is, most New Yorkers want that kind of bold progressive change. But Andrew Cuomo doesn’t.”

“Cuomo doesn’t want to have an honest debate – because he doesn’t want New Yorkers to know that they have a real choice. With only 38 days to go before Primary Day, Governor Cuomo needs to stop stalling and face voters on his eight year record.”

“Four years ago Andrew Cuomo not only refused to debate his opponent — he refused to even shake her hand.  New Yorkers deserve better, progressives deserve better, and women deserve better. This is our party too.”

Cynthia first challenged the Governor to a one-on-one prime time debate on May 7, in a video. The full video can be found HERE.
